5 Signs Your Jet Ski Needs Professional Repair

When your jet ski isn’t running quite right, it’s tempting to ignore the problem and hope it sorts itself out. But just like any engine, small issues can turn into major repairs if they’re not handled early.

At Summer Fun Sports, we’ve spent more than 27 years diagnosing and fixing every kind of jet ski problem on the St. Johns River, Doctors Lake, Julington Creek, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Here are the most common warning signs that it’s time to bring your ski in before you’re stranded on the water.

1. Your Jet Ski Won’t Start Easily

If it takes several tries to get the engine going, or it only starts when it wants to, it could be a weak battery, a bad starter relay, or corrosion in the electrical system. Florida’s humidity can be tough on wiring, and what starts as an occasional hesitation can lead to a complete no-start.

2. You Hear Strange Noises or Vibrations

Grinding, rattling, or whining noises from the rear of your ski often point to impeller or jet pump problems. When debris gets sucked in, it can damage blades or bearings and cause expensive performance issues. If you feel vibration through the handlebars, don’t wait — have it checked immediately.

3. Loss of Power or Speed

If your jet ski suddenly feels sluggish, it could be fuel delivery issues, clogged injectors, or supercharger problems. Rich and his team at Summer Fun Sports specialize in diagnosing these power loss symptoms using real-world water testing, not guesswork.

4. Warning Lights or Overheating

Modern skis have onboard sensors for a reason. Overheating or warning lights are often tied to cooling system blockages, oil level issues, or failing sensors. Ignoring those warnings could cause severe internal engine damage.

5. You Notice Water in the Hull

Even a little water where it shouldn’t be can point to seal leaks, hull cracks, or loose fittings. It’s one of the most overlooked issues we see — and one of the easiest to fix when caught early.

Every repair at Summer Fun Sports starts with an honest conversation, an upfront estimate, and updates throughout the job. From engines and electrical systems to jet pumps and superchargers, all work is done with OEM-grade parts and tested before you pick it up.
